The Fred, named after King Frederik V of Denmark (also the namesake for the town of Frederiksted where the property is located) is a brand new beachfront, boutique resort & spa. It’s the only beachfront resort that’s also located in town and is the first new hotel to open on St. Croix since 1986. The reviews have been outstanding too date.
The Gift Shop and Spa are open and The Fred expects to open its bar, pool and finally the restaurant within the second half of the 2019 season.
St. Croix is well known as the culinary island and the most historically significant island in the Caribbean. The Fred is a magnificent collection of 6 beautifully renovated and preserved historic structures, each with its own unique personality and story. For example, Totten House is named after early civil rights leader Ashley Totten and it is the signature structure on the property. It was originally constructed in 1790.
But, don't let the property's rich history fool you, The Fred offers the very latest in modern travel conveniences including free Wi-Fi throughout the property, even on the beach. Best of all with the exception of drinking water, The Fred operates completely "off-the-grid", powered by two Capstone Microturbines that are fueled by renewable propane gas. Exhaust from these turbines is recycled a whopping 9 times! So, when the entire facility is up and running at 100% capacity it will produce less carbon footprint than just 1 automobile, making The Fred the first green hotel on St. Croix.
The Fred is an adults only hotel. Winner: New Boutique Resort Of The Year 2017 by Caribbean Journal!
